AMBERLEY SCHOOL
new site secured FOUR ACRES ADJOINING DOMAIN The Government has approved the purchase of a new site for the Amberley School, according to advice, received yesterday by the Canterbury Education Board. The land adjoins the Amberley Domain, and is about four acres in extent, so that it will provide much more playground accommodation than the present site of two and a half acres. A row of trees shelters it from north-west winds. Part of the present school will be moved to the new site, but the building will be mainly new. The school, which celebrated its diamond jubilee last month, has about 100 pupils. FARMERS’ UNION ANNUAL MEETING OF BRANCH AT YALDHURST Mr T. A. Guy presided at the annal meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. The balance-sheet showed a substantial credit.
The following officers were elected: —President, Mr T. A. Guy; vicerpresidents, Messrs L. J. Franks, and C. Early; honorary auditor, Mr T. C. Eivers; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Franks; delegates to executive, Messrs T. A. Guy and W. H. Boyle.
BRANCR MEETS AT HORORATA
The Hororata branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met recently, with Mr K. W. J. Hall presiding. The itinerary for the flock ewe competition judging day on May 31 was discussed, and it was decided to meet at Hororata at 9 a.m., and proceed to Mr W. Stone’s property. Entries for the competition were satisfactory, and promised a good day’s outing for visitors if the weather holds. fe A miniature rifle - shooting match will be arranged between the Farmers’ Union and Young Farmers’ Club members.
Mr H. Oliver reported on the work done by the Wheat Electoral Committee. and urged farmers to put in as much wheat as possible. Mr Oliver, who is retiring by ballot from the committee, was thanked for the way in which he had represented the district’s wheatgrowers.
PERSONAL NOTES RANGIORA Mr H. P. Frazer, of Rangiora, is at Dunedin attending the conference of aerated water manufacturers. WEST MELTON Mrs Keay (Wellington) is spending a holiday in. West Melton, as the guest of Mr and Mrs J. H. Harvey. Mrs Hutton, formerly/ of West Melton, has been spending some weeks in the district and has been the guest ot Mr and Mrs D. McVinnie. Mrs W. Walker (Geraldine), who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs H. E. Cross, "Lawford,” has returned home HORORATA Mrs Jarman, of Lower Hutt, is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs Trenchard,' “Heatherlea,” Hororata. I MEDBURY
Miss Jean McLeod, who has been spending a holiday with her parents, Dr. and Mrs McLeod, Cashmere,' has returned to Medbury, Mr and Mrs J. B?ath • (Medbury), who have been on a motoring trip, have'returned home. Miss Maisie Titheridge, who has been spending a holiday in Medbury, has .returned to Christchurch.
DOMAIN BOARD MEETS AT TEMPLETON
The Templeton Domain Board held its annual meeting recently. Mr T. A. Guy was elected chairman. The Paparua County Council asked the board to take a lease of Leslie Park, ‘which the board decided to do, provided it had the power. Repairs to the Recreation Grounds and means of maintaining the grounds were discussed. Members will report on the proposals at the next meeting. The board agreed to try to dispose of the small area under its control in the Hornby township.
