PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON (»ox otra owi cobbesfohdkxt.) LONDON, May 11. Mr O. M. Hope. C.E. (Hamilton), expects to return to New Zealand toward the end of July. While in this country he is making an intensive study of the latest developments in the transportation of materials and passengers by aerial ropeways. He is also studying plant suitable for the crushing, pulverising, and screening of limestone for agricultural purposes as applied to New Zealand. Mr Hope intends to further his studies in Australia or the United States of America during his return journey. Mr J. L. Hewland, M.A., South Otago High School, Balclutha, who is on a year’s leave, arrived in London three weeks ago and is attending lectures at the Institute of Education and visiting schools. The lecture course will continue until the end of July. Mr Hewland also intends doing some research work at the Record Office on the early history of New Zealand. Meanwhile, Mrs Hewland, with her parents, and Mr and Mrs Cordery, are touring away from London. Mr A. Hebditch (Auckland) has booked his return passage by the Remuera to leave on August 18. While in the Old Country, he intends visiting various agricultural shows and farm colleges, and he will see as much as possible of English and Scottish livestock. He will go to Glasgow to see the exhibition. Mr Hebditch is at present staying with his father, who lives at South Petherton, Somerset. Mr R. G. Pearce (Christchurch) has secured a position with a firm of chartered accountants in London. Dr. Hubert Smith, who is already known in New Zealand, has been appointed Medical Officer of Health for Auckland. Before taking up duty in August, he hopes to travel in Canada and the United States. Dr. Smith is Medical Officer of Health for Northampton County.
