“ CENTENNIAL GAMES ” PLANNED PROPOSALS ANNOUNCED IN AUCKLAND (PRESS ASSOCIATION TEUCO RAM.) AUCKLAND, May 27. Sports gatherings comparable with the Empire Games were suggested today by the announcement of the sports committee of the Auckland Centennial Council of plans for “New Zealand centennial games" in 1940, probably from January 22 to February 3. It is proposed to invite co-operation by the rest of New Zealand and Australia in order to make the games the greatest sports event ever held In the Dominion. A further proposal Is to hold great winter sports celebrations in August, 1940, to be called the “New Zealand centennial winter games.’’ Protection of the names of both events will be sought. It is understood that a comprehensive programme is also being prepared by deep-sea fishing organisations*
