COUNTY CHAIRMEN

County councils throughout the Dominion met yesterday, in accordance with the Counties Act, to appoint chairmen for the ensuing year. Many of the meetings* were, as usual, adjourned to coincide with the next ordinary meetings. 'Hie Waimairi County Council, for instance, adjourned the special .meeting at noon until the evening, while the Halswell County Council’s statutory meeting was adjourned until to-day, Appointments of chairmen made by county councils near Christchurch yesterday were:— Heathcote—Mr A. G. Williams-(re-elected). Paparua—Mr T. O. Morgan. : Waimairi—Mr F. S. Scott. Rarigiota—Mr C. Rands. Kbwai—Mr H. May. Waimate-r-Mr John Bitchener. Geraldine —Mr K. Mackenzie. Ashburton—Mr H. J. Crothers. , West Coast Elections ‘ The following chairmen of county councils were elected on the West Coast:— Grey—Mr J. W. Hannan. Buller—Mr D. J. Archer. Tnangahua—Mr J. F. SeawrigbL
