NURSE MAUDE ASSOCIATION

GENEROUS HELP DURING

YEAR

GIFTS ACKNOWLEDGED

A busy year was reviewed by the matron (Miss M. Corkill) in her annual report to be presented to the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association Trust Board. Visits paid to patients at their homes numbered 13,741, calls at the office for help were 5125, and 2343 visits were paid by outpatients, said the report.

“It has been particularly hard to get domestic help of any kind for our sick people this year,” added the report, “and much time has been expended in an effort to procure the help which means so much in a home where sickness is present.” Most generous support was forthcoming from the public of Christchurch and the outlying districts as in the past. Gifts of all kinds had been received with gratitude. Thanks were due particularly to the many branches of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and to the Women’s Institutes for their great help and interest. Regular gifts of food from Mr F.. Webb, the Drapery Importing Company, and the Beresford Tearooms were gratefully acknowledged. Beneficial work was being done by the clothing committee, comprising Mesdames Carter (convener). Cook, Buick, Hunt, Rentoul, Whatman (cashier), and Miss Wood. They were unsparing in their work and merited the association’s warmest thanks. The staff had also co-operated loyally during the year and had worked most cheerfully. During the year Nurse Bashford had celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of her appointment to the district nursing staff. An afternoon tea party was held in her honour, at which Messrs F. W. Anderson (chairman), GL. Donaldson (secretary), and members of the staff had referred to Nurse Bashford’s loyal service. The report of the association’s committee said that the endowment fund now totalled £8065. The fund had benefited by nearly £2OOO during the year. Thanks were due to those who remembered the association in their wills. The interest on the fund was very helpful in relieving contributors. Bequests were as follows;
