MAYOR SEEKS ' MINISTER’S ■ ' AID ■■■ '■■■
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. , M.; Macfarlane), accompanied by Cr; B. Farlane and the-City Engineer (Mr A. tR. Galbraith) , waited on the Minister for Labour- (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) yesterday and asked him. to help the City Council ■ in its efforts to.-proVidc work.for those who will be .unemployed when seasonal occupations finish, and those who will be, put off ;from other worsts as they are completed. -- ’- ■ -The Minister was told that the' City ■ Couhcil was anxious .to - .provide' as nsiph .outdoor work as possible.during tfe. winter, .and the - suggestion made t<* him'-was that he -might make some arrangements for' transporting work- ■* “ layer, saying that shortage of fhad' hitherto hindered the fdpment of outdoor-’ works.. mister said 'he -.appreciated xstcinprch 'had dpne and .was n»;dbi.He;fadinitted ;,that the Jifßcult ies - which other cities Ijaye* and promised jig representations*.
