CLOSING ON ELECTION DAY
POSITION OF SHOPS AND
FACTORIES
The Local Elections and Polls Act and the Municipal Corporations Act do not provide that the day of the municipal elections, May 11, should be the statutory weekly half-holi-day for shops and factories. If shopkeepers who ordinarily observe the weekly half-holiday on some other day of the week wish to close on election day it will be necessary for them to close again on the day of their statutory half-holiday.
This does, not apply to those trades which are allowed to change their half-day to some other day than Saturday. These may change their half-holiday to election day by giving notice to the Inspector of Factories.
Seven days' notice in writing must be given to any assistant of any change in the half-holiday and the provisions of any award or industrial agreement fixing the halfholiday must be observed.
