TUESDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) THEFT OF A RING George Laurence Barber, a plumber, aged 22, pleaded guilty to the theft 01 a diamond ring valued at £lO 17s 6d, the property of Margaret Jean Smith. Detective-Sergeant F. Sinclair said that accused had taken the ring from the house in which he was boarding and had admitted that he intended to sell it so that he could go to Wellington to take a position. On the application of the Probation Officer (Mr W. H. Darby) accused was remanded in custody until to-morrow for further inquiries to be made. SOLD GOODS ON ANZAC DAY For having sold goods on Anzac Day in view of a public place, Enid Hall was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. TRAFFIC OFFENCES For offences against the traffic regulations, the following penalties were imposed:— . . Speeding: Elsie May Macfarlane, £S; Thomas Shaw, £3. , _ No warrant of fitness: Roland Flemxn'mg, 10s. No endorsed certificate of registration: Francis Mitchell Browne, 20s. Cycling without a light: Henry James Kerr, costs only; Hector Matthew Arnold, costs only. CIVIL COURT (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) DEFENDED CIVIL ACTIONS In a defended action, Sydney William Neilson (Mr F. W. Johnston) claimed £42 13s 8d from Ernest Edridge (Dr. A. L. Haslam), contending that toe negligence of defendant's wife in failing to signal a right-hand turn was the cause of a collision between the motor-car she was driving -and a lorry driven by plaintiff, as a result of which the lorry was damaged and fruit and vegetables it contained were rendered unsaleable. For the defence, Dr. Haslam denied negligence and said that defendant's wife did signal her intention to turn to the right. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for £35 10s 7d, with costs. The Magistrate said it was his opinion that the signal had been given too late. Judgment for the defendant, with costs, was given in the defended claim for £45 by Norman Frank Schroder (Mr D. W. Russell) against C. L. Rhodes, trading as Rhodes Motors (Mr K. G. Archer). Plaintiff alleged in his statement of claim that incorrect information had been given about a car he had bought: but this was denied by the defence and the Magistrate held for the defendant, staling that there had been no misrepresentation. A. Blackburn (Mr L. J. H. Hensley) claimed £2l from W. J. Henry as the remainder of an amount advanced by plaintiff and not repaid. The Magistrate held that the debt was owing, but not recoverable and non-suited the plaintiff.
RESERVED JUDGMENT Reserved judgment was given in the claim for arrears of wages under the motion picture projectionists' award by B. L. Herrick (Mr R. J. Larkin) against Premier Entertainments, Ltd. (Mr C. V. Lester). Herrick was awarded £l2B 13s 8d and costs. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES
On a judgment summons R. Dunford was ordered to pay Albert Counsel £2 8s forthwith, in default four days' imprisonment, the issue of the warrant to be suspended so long as 10s a week is paid. C. Leech was Ordered to pay Haglund Bros. £1 13s 9d forthwith, in default four days' imprisonment, the issue of the warrant to be suspended so long as 10s a week is paid.
ORDER FOR POSSESSION An order for possession on or before May 17 was granted to Mary Ann Ashton against Cecil Lester Stigley. JUDGMENTS BY DEFAULT
