WELLINGTON, May 1. The weather forecast for Canterbury md Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by jhe Meteorological Office, Wellington, md dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

Light to moderate and variable winds, with south-westerly to westerly predominating. Weather fair to cloudy, with milder temperatures.. Seas slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of ae South Island is:—

Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerlies soon prevailing and freshening somewhat. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but becoming unsettled, and scattered rains developing. Seas slight to moderate. DOMINION Weather fair to cloudy generally, but later becoming unsettled in the western and far southern portions of the South Island. Cool night but mild day temperatures. An anti-cyclone centred over the Eastern Tasman covers the Dominion, while a shallow westerly depression has now passed Tasmania.

Winds —Variable, with southerly to outh-easterly predominating over the (forth Island and south-westerly to westerly over the South; force, light p moderate, but later freshening in he far south and tending to northwesterly. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Slight o moderate generally, but later rising n the far south. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate and variable winds, with easterlies predominating in the northern Sortion and freshening north-wester-es in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate, but rising in the south.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather was milder in Christchurch during the week-end, and there was no rain. Saturday was fine and sunny, and yesterday, though for the most part overcast, was warm. Last evening was cold, and there was likelihood of a frost this morning. At 1 o’clock this morning the weather was calm and the sky clear, and there was a light fog. The temperature was 48 degrees, and JJhe barometer was steady at 30.30 mches. Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, on April 30;— 9 a.m.

.Auckland—Saturday was fine and Atony, with a light south-westerly Wind. Temperatures were mild and cooler. Yesterday was fine and sunny, with a moderate southerly wind. The maximum temperature yesterday was ov degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. JWterday read 30,20 inches, and was steady.

Wellington—After heavy rain on Frioay night, with a brief southerly change, the weather cleared rapidly, and Saturday and Sunday were brilliantly Me, though cool, with moderate northwesterly and light southerly breezes respectively. The rainfall on Saturday morning was 0.92 inches. The minimum temperature on Friday was 49.2 degrees, the maximum on Saturday "*•?> the minimum on Saturday night ■™- 2 . and the maximum yesterday 60.6 degrees. At 3.30 yesterday afternoon “6 ,barometer registered 30.25 inches.
