♦ SATURDAY (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) REMANDED Trevor Vesey Cooke, a salesman, aged 29 (Mr T. A. Gresson), was charged with the theft of a quantity of cutlery and pots, of a total value of £2B Os 9d, the property of the Drapery and General Importing Company, Ltd., between December 1, 1936, and February 28, 1937. Applying for a remand until May 12, Detective-Sergeant F. Sinclair said that the case was connected with others which would come up for hearing on that date. The remand was granted, Cooke being admitted to bail on his own recognisance of £IOO and one surety of £IOO, and being ordered to report daily to the police. An application for the suppression of the name was refused. OTHER CHARGES PENDING “There are other charges of a more serious nature pending,” said Sub-In-spector W. E. Packer, in asking for the rertiand of Edward Dardenell de Malmanche, a labourer, agpd 23 (Mr H. W. Hunter), until next Thursday. De Malmanche was charged wth the theft of a bicycle, valued at £7, the property of some person unknown. Bail was granted in de Malmanche’s o'vCh recognisance of £250 and one surety of £250. He. was ordered to report daily to the police. An application for the suppression of the name was refused.

CHILDREN’S COURT

T. Green, J.P.)

Fifteen charges of theft 'of bicycle accessories and goods from motor-cars were admitted by two boys aged 15 and 16. It was stated by the police that about 120 articles had been stolen altogether. A quantity of the articles had not yet been claimed. Each boy was placed under the supervision .of the Child Welfare Officer for two years, and ordered not to associate with the other. Neither boy is to, be out after 7 p.m. for 12 months, except with the permission, of the officer. • theft of wallet

A' boy, who admitted the theft of a wallet and £5 in money, was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 motnhs. Another, who admitted stealing a number of padlock keys, was placed under the supervision of-the Child Welfare Officer for 12 months,.

- INDECENT ASSAULT Charges of indecent assault were admitted by two boys, who. were also placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for 12 months. They were ordered not to associate with each other, and were prohibited from attending picture theatres for six months.

(Before.Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) In a civil action in which allegations of assault were made, Andrew Murray (Mr Alpers) claimed £55 2s from Joseph Barton (Mr Lyons), special and general demages for injuries which plaintiff alleged he had received from defendant. After hearing evidence at considerable length the Magistrate said he was satisfied defendant had caused the injuries complained of and gave judgment for plaintiff for £3O, together with costs.

For failing to give way to traffic on his right, Robert James Rowney was fined £3 and ordered to pay costs. On a similar charge, Frank Sydney Dyer pleaded not guilty. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate said that the offence was a technical one only, and ordered defendant to, pay costs.
