Mr C. G. Parish left last night to join the Mariposa for a visit to the United States, where he intends to gain experience in accountancy. The Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, Bishop in Polynesia, who is a son of the late Archdeacon and Mrs J. P. Kempthorne, of Nelson, will visit Christchurch over the week-end. Mr T. M. Stanton, structural engineer on the City Engineer's staff, who was married recently, was met yesterday by the staff of the City Council and presented with a canteen of cutlery. Mr G. T. Williams, caretaker of the City Council chambers for the last 17 years, and Mrs Williams, who will retire to-day, were met yesterday by the staff of the council and presented with a wallet of bank-notes and a leather hand-bag. The Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville), who made the presentation, referred to the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Williams were held by the staff and expressed regret that their connexion with the staff was to be broken.
