CURRENT NOTES

Mrs Maurice Earle (Wanganui) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to visit Mrs Edgar Stead, “Ham,” Riccarton,

Mr H. F. O’Leary, K.C., president of the New Zealand Law Society, will arrive in Christchurch on Tuesday to attend the society’s conference. He will be accompanied by Mrs O’Leary.

Mrs Wrey Nolan (Gisborne) will be a visitor to Christchurch for Easter.

Mrs Hubert Nathan and Miss Joyce Nathan (Wellington), who are visiting Hanmer Springs, will be in Christchurch next week for the races and golf tournament. Mrs John Penny (Papanui), who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs A. N. Mac Gibbon, Mataura, has left for Dunedin, where she will spend a few days with her sister, M r s Carswell.

Mr and Mrs Jack Anderson (Dunedin) will be the guests of Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Kingscote, Fendalton, for the Easter races. They will arrive in Christchurch on Saturday night.

Mrs Cecil Wynn-Williams and Miss Ruth Wynn-Williams (Papanui road), who have been visiting Mrs T. Latham, Wanganui, will return to Christchurch this morning.

Mr Eric Riddiford, president of the Wellington Racing Club, and Mrs Riddiford, will arrive in Christchurch on Sunday and will be the guests of Miss D. Humphreys, “Daresbury,” Fendalton, for the Easter races.

Miss Vida McClure (Wellington) will be the guest of Miss Maberley Beadel, Merivale lane, for the Canterbury provincial golf championship tournament, which will open at Shirley next Wednesday. Miss Joan Murchison, “Glenthofne,” Lake Coleridge, who has been on a visit to the North Island, is now the guest of Mrs Bruce Stronach, Halswell. She will spend Easter with Mrs Otto Richards, Albury.

Miss Jean Horwell (Timaru) will be a visitor to Christchurch for the golf tournament next week.

Mrs Eustace Russell (Invercargill) will be the guest of her sister, Mrs F. E. Berndtson, Fendalton, for Easter.

Miss J. Betts, holder of the Canterbury provincial golf championship, Miss Ella Harkness, and Miss Lulu Lucas will be Nelson representatives at the golf tournament at Shirley next week. Miss Harkness will arrive on Monday and will stay with her uncle, Mr J. T. Harkness, Clissold street, and Miss Lucas will stay with Mrs Alister McKillop, Sunnyside. Mr and Mrs Bert Green will be visitors to Christchurch for the Easter races. '

Mrs Welton Hogg and Mrs David Crombie (Lower Hutt) will arrive in Christchurch on Tuesday, and will be the guests of Mrs Alister McKillop, Sunnyside, for the golf tournament at Shirley.

Mrs W, H. Rothwell, who is at present in Sydney, will leave by the Neptuna on April 27 for New Zealand to spend a few weeks with her brother before joining her husband in London.

Mrs T. Batie (Kaiapoi) is spending a holiday in^Wellington. Miss June Stewart (Hamilton avenue, Fendalton), who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs A. W. J. Peacock, Wanganui, will spend Easter at the Chateau Tongarjro with Mr and Mrs J. L. Griffin and Miss Aroha Griffin, of Wellington.

Miss Margaret Hamilton (“Woodside,” Culverden) and her brother, Mr W. Hamilton, will leave to-mor-row to spend a short holiday in Dunedin,

Misses Enid and Marie Macdonald (North Linwood) will leave tomorrow for Wellington, where they will be the guests of their aunt, Mrs E, Arnott, Marama crescent. Miss Roma Reid (Sumner) has left to spend a short holiday in Wellington before going to the Chateau Tongariro, where she will spend Easter.

Misses Jacqueline and Decima Ormond (Wallingford, Hawke s Bay) will leave next month for England, where Miss Decima Ormond will study singing.

Passengers on the Empress of Britain, which left Wellington on Sunday, included Lord and Lady Tennyson, who have been tounng in India, where Lord Tennyson' was a member of a cricket team.. He is a grandson of the famous poet and son of a former Governor-General of Australia. Other passengers were thj Marchese Olive Perkins d’Amico, of Genoa, Miss Jane Mahoney, who is connected with the Veterans Administration of the United States Government at Palo Alto, California, and Mi sd Mercy Ashworth, barrister-at-law, London.

Mr Derrick Gould (chairman) and Mrs Gould, Sir Bruce and Lady Stewart, Mr and Mrs Gordon McCredie, Misses Relda Duncan, Kathleen Newton, Rose Hutton, Margaret Sims, Joan Preston, Messrs E. W Reeves, R. R- Livingstone, George Hutton, and H. D. Livingstone, honorary secretary, are members of the committee that is organising the polo ball to be held in the Winter Garden on Easter Monday night. There is an unprecedented demand for tickets. Mrs H. Holland was hostess at a card party held by the 500 circle of the Canterbury Women’s Club. There were eight tables, and the Srize-winners were Miss Davies and Irs Reaby, Mrs Holland wore a black chiffon frock, patterned with flowers of apricot pink and blue shades. The room was decorated with marigolds, michaelmas daisies, and dahlias.
