WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

ANNUAL MEETING OF ALLENTON BRANCH The seventh annual meeting of the Allenton Women’s Institute was held recently, when Mrs G. Harris presided. The incoming president was appointed delegate to the Women’s Institute conference at Wellington in July. The annual report and balance-sheet showed a successful year, both financially and socially. The election of officers, resulted:— President, Mrs J. H. Stevens; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames W. J. Dickinson and A. Black; secretary, Mrs A. McKay; treasurer, Mrs E, C. Bathurst; committee, Mesdames E. C. Chambers, W. Collins. G. Harris, G. Hosken, G. Knox, J. McElhinney, and L. A. Walker. Bouquets were presented to Mesdames E. H. Davis, G. Harris, G. Hosken, and TT P Uathiil'Qf Results of the year’s competitions were:, Mrs H. Greaves 1, Mrs W. Collins 2, Miss McDowell 3.

L Hostesses were Mesdames L. A. Walker, A. Black, H, Greaves, A. Corbett, and J. Boothroyd. Miss Ray Robins, the resident tutor of the Association for Country Education, gave an address on her work. METHVEN LADIES’ HOCKEY CLUB OPENS The Methvea Ladies’ Hockey Club held its official opening of jthe season on Saturday. There was a good muster of players. Sides were chosen by the captain and vice-captain. The bullyoff was taken by the president (Mrs G. Johns) arid Mr William Owen, sen.
