CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW JUDGES APPOINTED
Short addresses on subjects connected with horticulture may be broadcast from Radio Station 3YA during the children’s hour by different members of the Canterbury Horticultural Society if sufficient interest in the project is shown by listeners to encourage these talks being given. The talks will mainly be to encourage children to take an interest in gardening and other, activities connected with horticulture, and will be weekly, it was stated at the monthly meeting of the Horticultural Society last night. Mr W. Balch presided. . Judges at the chrysanthemum show which will be held towards the end of the month were elected as follows: Open section, Mr H. Cropp: amateur and novice class, Mr M. J. Gilpin; fruit, Mr C. Brooks; vegetables, Mr E. Taylor; decorative section, Mrs E. L. Blunden; cut flowers and pot plants, Mr J. McPherson. ~ • _ It was agreed that the Mayor. Mr J. W. Beainland, be asked to open the show. . . ... Advice was received that the society’s share of the net profit made at the National Flower Show amounted to £l7. , . . Four new members were elected. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mr W. E. Clothier in his death. Mr Clothier was connected with the society for many years, being one of its life members.
