COUNT VON LUCKNER AND RIPA ISLAND
TO THB CDITOB or THB PUSS. Sir,—ln an' article in "The Press" to-day, we read of the disappointment expressed by Count von Luckner at not being permitted to visit Ripa Island.. No doubt his inclination to| visit the island is attributable to sentiment only, but in view of the troubled state of the world to-day and the various opinions which people attach to such privileges being granted, it is ?uestionable whether it isji wise move, it would be as well for the Count to remember that in the majority of foreign lands we are not permitted to carry a camera* to "snap" even the most harmless of objects, and that as far as New Zealand is concerned, he has been given a very free hand. Although I myself admire his wartime exploits as much as anyone, I think that he should be sportsman enough to abide by the decision which has already been given.—Yours, etc., C. R. BUCKLEY. April 11. 1938.
