CELEBRATIONS IN SYDNEY
CHILDREN IN ANNIVERSARY PAGEANT
(Received April 7, 12.10 a.m.)
SYDNEY, April 6
Thousands of school children today played their part in the New South Wales anniversary celebrations in a colourful pageant at the Sydney cricket ground. More than 50,000 parents gained admission, but at least 20,000 did not. This resulted in tremendous confusion and disappointment. The pageant depicted Australian fauna and flora and native corroborees. Tableaux symbolised early Australian life and products. Folk dances were presented, while 40 suburban schools welcomed “The Spirit of Australia,” featured by a tall, lovely girl in rich robes.
