When Spoon was in to|) form some seasons ago she was one of the best mares that the Dominion has seen. However, she was a hard mare to keep sound, and, sent to the stud four years ago, she is now -being represented on the race track by a two-year-old chestnut Night Raid filly named Verey Lights, who will be racing at Stratford to-day. .

Verey Lights was sent to the Trentham sales last year by the executors of Mr R. McKay, of Sydney, who had bought Spoon at a dispersal sale carrying the Night Raid foal. The youngster was acquired by Mr E. J. Kirkwood, of Stratford, for 160 guineas, and is now being trained by J. Butler. Her only starts to date were at Stratford at, the New Year, when she ran very promisingly on the first day. Strong Oaks Candidate . The good effort recorded by Icing in finishing third in the Awapuni Gold Cup last week indicated that she has excellent prospects in the Great Northern Oaks, in which she is not likely to meet very strong field, says a North Island writer. The most impressive feature of Icing’s effort was that she ran on gamely at the end of a fastrun race, and left the impression that she will be capable of rumiing a mile and a half solidly. Owned by Mm G. M. Currie, and trained by W. Rayner, Icing. is by Limond. from Aspic, by Polymelus from- Jelly, by Islinglass from Lady Ailsa, by Ayrshire, and she is a sister to Tout le Monde and Edible. The latter has raced well in Sydney lately. WHANGAREI K.C. ACCEPTANCES (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND. April 1.
