AWARD FOR WOOLLEN INDUSTRY
WELLINGTON,.March 24. ftvfidence supporting the workers’ claims for a new Dominion award for woollen mills and hosiery factories again occupied the Court of Arbitration 4his morning. This afternoon the employers’ case was begun. " Mr'A. S. Cookson denied the allegations,of unfairness and evasion of the •Ward, and quoted figures showing th§t woollen mill workers’ wages between 1904 and 1918 increased py from 78tb 108 per cent. James Evans, supporting.. Mr Cookson. said the last year had been prosperous one, but the position today'was very different, and the out-, look . for the future was not bright. Their main objective, even at the expense of shareholders, was to keep the workers employed.' Mr Cookson said tibai industry was quite unable to bear any-increased labour, cost. .
