“These offences are serious. The punishment has gone up to 12 months’ imprisonment for summary conviction, and to two years where the right of trial by jury is exercised. He drove to Petone, picked up a girl friend and a married couple, and went to Foxton, where he later surrendered to the police, stating that while driving north he had heard on the . car’s radio set a broadcast for the missing vehicle. A sentence of two months’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed.
