PIGEON FLYING

RACES FROM WAIKARI AND BLENHEIM The Christchurch Premier Pigeon Club conducted races from Blenheim and Waikari recently. Adverse weather slowed up limes in both races and prevented several owners getting birds through in race time from Blenheim. The winning bird of the Blenheim race, owned by A. Scptt, flew the distance in shr 43min 39sec. In the Waikari race the time of the winning bird, owner by H. Manhire, was 2hr 4min 56sec. Results, In order of velocity, were;— Blenheim Race—A. Scott’s News Girl 783 yards a minute; Evans and Johnston's Tornado 780, J. Sparke’s Sensible 750. Waikari Race—H. Manhire’s First Shot 586 yards a minute, D. Broad’s Hazeldean 557, J. Sparke’s Westward Ho 491, A Scott’s Verdict 491, A. Frandsen’s Flame Queen 486, Evans' and Johnstone’s Silk Hat 478, McNeish Bros.’ Queenle 468, J. E. Maxwell’s Eclipse 402.

GISBORNE FEDERATION RACE EAST CHRISTCHURCH BIRDS HOME FIRST The Gisborne federation pigeon race, flown in conjunction with the Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club and the East Christchurch Racing Pigeon Club, was a great success. Sixty birds were sent, fi’om 25 owners. The three first birds were the only ones to arrive home on the day of liberation. They were the property of members of the East Christchurch Club. The winning bird, J. Rolton’s No. 547, flew the distance of 446 miles 1620 yards in 13hr Bmln 4sec. The following is the result in order of velocity:—J. Rolton’s No. 547, 988 yards a minute: J. H. Beale’s No. 165, 997; F. Kingsford’s No, 69, 946; A. Stone’s No. 739, 829; A. Stone’s No. 723, 828; J. Pearce's No. 619, 823; T. G, Brister’s No. 745, 780: J. Grenfell's No. 1283, 769; F. Kingsford’s No. 13, 747; R. Lumber’s No, 829, 716; R. G. Bell’s No. 158, 706; J. Barter’s No. 586, 703; J. Barter’s No. 3, 702; A. Stone’s No. 889, 702; G. Robertson's No. 525, 702; J.
