WIGRAM AND HAREWOOD
TO XHE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —In regard to the discussion on aerodrome sites, it seems strange to me that it has .never occurred to the 'authorities that both sites are unsuitable for the purposes intended. It is too late. I suppose, to suggest that they should be reversed; but I have thought so for some years. The only drawback is the heavy expense already incurred at Wigram. Now it seems that this outlay is very small in comparison with what is to be spent at both aerodromes. It is inevitable that a military aerodrome should be apart from anything else; and to this end it would have been an advantage to have had it farther out even than the Harewood site. On the other hand, for civil aviation the distance from the city cannot be too short, and Wigram is far enough out, though a shorter route might be found to it. Wigram, not many years hence, will be in the midst of a dense population, and in the case of an attack its position would be a decided menace to the city.—Yours, etc.. ’ T A S March 18, 1938.
