SILV ERSTRE AM PLAYS ST. BEDE’S

WIN FOR VISITORS BY 91 RUNS

A win by 91 runs in a one innings match was gained by St. Patrick's College, Silverstream, Wellington, against St. Bede’s College in a two-day match played on the St. Bede’s grounds. It is hoped that the match will become an annual fixture, with the game which ended yesterday ak the first of the series. Because of the weather there was little play on the first day. When the match was resumed yesterday Silverstreaijj continued its innings, carrying the score from 71 for one wicket to 197 for seven, when the visitors declared.

Outstanding batsmen were W. Burton with 51 and R. Bourke with 44. J. Manley, the Silverstream captain, who made 32, was seen ip a notable partnership with T. Kelly (21 not out). These two batsmen played steadily and carefully on a difficult wicket. T. Gilbert and F. Henderson were the most successful, bowlers for St. Bede’s. Each took two wickets for 9 runs.

St. Bede’s opened after lunch on a wicket that was still difficult. The outstanding performance was the play of J. Gill, the captain, who batted for most of the innings steadily and with confidence. He made the top score of 52. The spearhead of the Silverstream attack was

the fast bowling of Manley. The rising balls troubled the batsmen. Details:—
