QUALITY OF MUTTON BREEDS
CARCASE COMPETITION
SUGGESTED
A suggestion that the CanterburyAgricultural and Pastoral Association should organise a carcase competition was given favourable support by members of the association at their annual meeting last night. The meeting decided to recommend the committee to consider the suggestion, which was made by the incoming president (Mr T. A. Stephens). Mr George Gould said the suggestion should certainly be investigated by the association.
“It is worth going into to compare the cutting-up quality of all our mutton breeds,” Mr Gould said. “I think there’ is room for research that will our knowledge of the flesh quality of our sheep. This association is undoubtedly the proper body to carry out such a competition.” . Mr -,C. H. Bethell remarked that if the -suggestion was approved there should be some method of judging by the eating quality rather than by the shape of the carcase.
