FETE AT HOLME STATION

VARIED PROGRAMME WINNERS OF SPORTING EVENTS By the courtesy of Mr and Mrs A. S. Elworthy, the annual garden fete in aid of the Otaio and Bluecliffs parish was held at Holme Station, and proved most successful. The attendance was much larger than in many previous years, and reflected great credit on the organising ability of the president, Mrs Woodhouse (Bluecliffs), the honorary secretary, Miss Joy Bennett (Lyalldale), the honorary treasurer, Mr J. R. Trimble (St. Andrews), and their wiling band of helpers. More than COO visitors took the opportunity to inspect the picturesque homestead and gardens. The Timaru Harmonica Band, under the direction of the president, Mr S. F. Hanson, and the conductor, E. Miller, presented a varied musical programme, and a variety of novelty events for both young and old held the interest of all present during the afternoon. Folk-dancing displays were given by members of the Pareora Girl Guides and the St. Andrews school children. Sideshows controlled by Messrs J. Stowell, E. G. Coles, L. Donehue, and H. L. Fenn, and afternoon tea and sweets stalls in charge of the ladies did brisk business. Dog Trials The dog trials, held under the supervision of Mr E. Davidson, attracted six entrants. The placings, judged by Mr Linton, were:— George Cocks (22 points) 1, .Chas. Skudder (20 points) 2, Robert Jolinstone (15 points) 3. To honour their cousin. Miss Vera. Ancell whose marriage will take place this week, Mrs H. A. S. Cook and Mrs R. F. Munson gave a "variety" gift party at Mrs Munson's home.
