DEATH OF STOCK AGENT
. * BODY FOUND AT CHERTSEY
EVIDENCE OF IDENTIFICATION
John Grainger Weir, aged 33, married, a stock agent, employed by Dalgety and Company at Ashburton, was found dead in a plantation on the Stewart estate near Chertsey with a bullet wound in his head, yesterday. Weir, who resided at Oak grove, Ashburton', left a note to indicate where his body could be found. The inquest was opened by the Ashburton District Coroner (Mr E. C. Bathurst) yesterday. Evidence of identification was given, by Graham M. Heasley, grain buyer for Dalgety and Company, who said Weir appeared to be in good health and was cheerful when witness last saw him alive on Saturday morning. He gave no indication -that he- in~ tended to take his life. Witness went to the plantation -west of Chertsey early yesterday meaning and saw his firm's car on the side, of the road. He. went through thick scrub and found the body with -a .22 rifle lying -at -the* feet among the trees. The inquest was adjourned.
