The feature of t.ivj sale was the eagerness of Brad lord to secure wools of all sorts, and with Franco and .Germany bidding strongly this increased Home competition made a bright sale. Bradford operated more willingly than at any previous rale this season, and lifted "a heavy weight of wool. The throughout was bright, with compelition animated and general up to fairlv closely defined limits. On Christchurch, halfbreds were a full halfpenny up, and crossbreds were from par to a farthing better. . Merinos were steady, but were difficult to sell. Bradford was the chief buying point, but France and Germany operated animatedly throughout the day. Local mills bought sparingly, but tpok their share of the super lines suitable to their needs. Japan also bought, but competition from this quarter was limited Ali wools except the finest sold very well, but there was a particularly keen demand for thrcc-quarlcrbreds end crossbreds. ■ 1 • The catalogue and order or sale were ss follows:- ' . '4,301 ' 23,075 The catalogue was a substantial one for a Timaru March offering, and was as usual made up of almost every class of wool. A number of the large high country ?nd Mackenzie Country merino clips came forward, but there was also a good selection of halfbreds and three-quarterbreds, and a useful representation of crossbreds. From alt districts the wool was disappointing in quality, as it carried a lot of dust, particularly the high country wool, and showed a good deal of volk stain. The season in South Canterbury, as in districts further north, has not been a good one. The weather was particularly bad just before shearing.. The offering was in marked contrast to that at the March sale last year, when.a particularly good selection came forward. A3 usual, some very large clips were offered. The Grampians total was 358 balcs, and several other large runs offered more than 200 bales. The catalogue contained a large quantity of binned wool, which sold veil. Top price of the sale was 17d, which was pr.id for five bales of merino ewe irom the Omahau clip of W. G. Elliott. Pukaki. The first classing of wether from the came clip made 16id, which was the second best price of the day. Tcp price last year for merino was 23\d. The best halfbred price was 15jd, which was secured for four bales of ewe from the AUandalc clip of Andrew Gram, Fairlic, and for a ~>■' nod lot of three bales in' Dalgety'? Corriedale. of which there was only a small offering, made to 13Jd, wool sold on behalf of C. H. S. John•ston, St. Andrews and J. Matheson and Sons, Kurow, teaching that price. The best price for three-quarterbreds was I4d, secured for a binned lot of Pyne, Gculd. Guinness' catalogue. Crossbreds made to lljd, that price being secured for a line sold on behalf of S. Medlicott, Hook, and for seven bal'js of AUandale wool. (Received March 7, 11 p.m.) SYDNEY. March 7. At the wool sales to-day, the demand was well sustained under keen • competition from Japan, and also good support from Yorkshire and the Continent. Values were rairiy firm, compared with the closing rates of last week, Greasy merino fleeces realised to 18Jd. The offering consisted of 11,195 bales, of which 10,519 were sold and 1466 disposed of prjvately. The average prices last week were £l4 17s 8d a bale, or 12.4 per lb. The average prices the week before were £l4 10s Id and 11.9 d and in the previous week £l4 16s and 12d.
