M.C.C. TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA BOARD FAVOURS ADOPTION OF EIGHT-BALL OVER (USITBD FBBSS ABSOCIATIOM—COPYBIGHTi) (Received March 7, 10 p.m.) DURBAN. March 7. The South African Cricket Board of Control has recommended the adoption of the eight-ball over throughout the Marylebone Cricket Club's tour in the summer of 1938-39. POSITION OF LOWER GRADE TEAMS CLOSE CONTESTS IN SEVERAL COMPETITIONS In several of the lower grades of the Canterbury Cricket Association, the leading teams are in close positions. In the afth grade, Sydenham has a large lead, and Boys' High School are fairly well ahead In the sixth grade, but in the three other grades the first few teams are close. LABOUR DEPARTMENT A cricket match played between teams representing the State Advances Corporation and the Labour Department resulted in a win for the State Advances Department by 97 runs. Scores were:—State Advances Department 213 (A. L. Choat 64, K. Cobden 47, M. C. Smith 47) and 153 (J. Haughey 40, A. C. Lawrey 42). Labour Department 144 (H. W. Dobbs 44) and 125 (E. A. Brunton 56). Bowling for the State Advances Department team, A. R. King took five wickets for 69 runs, and four for 34, and F. J. Cullen three for 19. Bowling for the Labour Department, P. F. Nelson took five for 20.
