DOMAINS BOARD WORK FOR WINTER
DRAINING AND LEVELLING TO COST ABOUT £IOO3 Suggested work for the coming winter, put before the Minister for Employment (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) recently, was reported to the Ghristchurch Domains Board by its curator (Mr J. A. McPherson) at a meeting yesterday afternoon. A scheme for draining and levelling work in the plantation in South Hagley Park from the hospital corner to Selwyn street, at an estimated cost of more than £IOOO, will be proceeded with at once, but two other schemes will be held over at present After the draining and levelling, the area will be graded ready for permanent maintenance. Materials are esti- . mated to cost £43 7s, and labour (20 men for three months) £960, a total • of £IOO3 7s. The Domaihs Board will • supply the materials and the super- ! vision. r Works which will be held over are the continuation of standard fencing J in place of diseased hedges for 45 • chains at a cost of about £465. and the formation of an alpine section in ■ the botanic gardens, estimated to cost i £IO6O. The board decided to accept tenders ■ for tar-sealing a pathway six feet wide ; from Matai street to join the main i cycle track (estimate £32), attention > to broken sealed surface of the main i cycle track from Fendalton road gates 1 to near the golf house (£37 IBs), and - patching minor breaks from the golf 3 house to the Armagh street bridge <£3).
