I <► VERDICT AT JNQUEST t A verdict that death was caused by heart failure due to anaesthesia and contributed to and accelerated by toxaemia and enlargement of the heart was returned by the. Coroner, Mr E. C. Levvey, in an inquest, concluded vesterday afternoon, into the death of Clifford James Leney. aged 12 years, nf 675 Worcester street. Leney died on February 5 while undergoing an operation for a mastoid disease at the Christchurch Public Hospital. The verdict was in accordance with the medical evidence of Dr. A. B. Pearson, pathologist at the Christchurch Public Hospital, who conducted a postmortem examination. To Mr R. A. Young, who appeared for the boy's relatives. Dr. Pearson said that the anaesthetic used was quite suitable for such an operation, and [ that the temperature was not an unI usual one.
