THE KING
George VI. By Hector Boiitho. Eyre and Spottiswoode. 256 pp. (7s 6d net.) Mr Bolitho's latest addition to his series of royal biographical studies has all the good qualities of a plain, comprehensive, and detailed narrative. Readers—and they are no •■ doubt many—who want to be able to trace the whole course of His Majesty's life and to gain some insight into his personal characteristics, his manner of living, and his special interests, may confidently turn to Mr Bolitho's book. Childhood, education, war service in the navy, later service in the air force, particular causes such as those of the Industrial Welfare Society and the Duke of York's Camp, marriage: these are the themes of chapters which lead up to the events that have brought King George VI to the Throne. The last chapters, one of which gives touching glimpses of George V's last days, traverse these events and the problems of kingship and close with an account of the Coronation. There are 24 photographs, well chosen.
