♦ LABOUR'S MOTION OF CENSURE COLLECTIVE SECURITY SOUGHT HUGE DEFENCE EXPENDITURE ATTACKED .caiTKD passu *ssocutioh— cupttuoht.; (Received March 4, 9 p.m.) LONDON, March 4. The Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) will move, when the defence debate opens in the House of Commons on Monday, approval of the White Paper on defence expenditure brought down this week. Labour will table an amendment, tantamount to a rejection of the motion, reading:— "The House, believing that the safety of the country and the maintenance of peace are attainable only through collective security under the League of Nations, and being willing to provide the arms necessary to implement such a policy, condemns the provision of immense armaments to further a dangerous and unsound foreign policy undertaken in defiance of the Government's election pledges. It cannot approve a defence programme, failing effectively to coordinate strategy, administration, and supply, and permitting private manufacturers to make huge profits from the nation's needs."
