BUTCHER'S SHOP ABLAZE
DAMAGE TO WESTPORT PREMISES
TWO FIREMEN INJURED
Fire caused much damage to the Jubilee * butchery premises in Brougham street last night. The outbreak was discovered in the rear of the building and spread to the freezer in the middle section and a garage at the side of the main shop. Luckily the stock was fairly light and the loss in this direction will not be great. The rear section of the shop and the garage suffered the most, and good work by the Westport Brigade prevented the fire doing any great damage to the front of the building. The Jubilee butchery is owned by Mr R. Powell, who was visiting Charleston at the time of the fire. The origin of the outbreak is unknown, but it is believed to have occurred by the ignition of some fat kepi at the rear of the shop. Two firemen, W. Collins and S. Daily, were scalded on the hands and face by hot fat, necessitating their receiving treatment at the Buller Hospital.
