YOUNG WOMAN REFUSES TO GIVE EVIDENCE
CHARGE AGAINST FATHER DISMISSED

In spite of warnings that her attitude, amounted to contempt of Court a 17-year-old girl stond y refused to give evidence in the Magistrates Couit on a charge of incest against her father. Walter Robinson, aged sb, a r °The girl admitted that her complaint to the police was true, but refused to nive evidence about the incident from which the charge arose. Saying that the case appeared to be hopeless, the Magistrate (Mr J Miller SM.) discharged the accused. He added that he would not deal with the girl for contempt of Court, as she was a quarter-caste native, who had been living under Maori conditions.
