INTERRUPTIONS AT POLITICAL MEETINGS

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRES 3. Sir, —Since writing to you on the above subject 1 have carefully followed the rather animated correspondence that has followed. Your correspondent, J. Hill, has "spilled the beans," so to speak, in his letter in your issue of March 1. He wrote: "It has long been an accepted fact that truth always hurts." I thank Mr Hill most sincerely, for he has explained the interruptions at political meetings. The Labour Communist group simply cannot listen quietly to words of truth as spoken by level-headed National speakers, and Mr Hill now tells us that it is because the truth hurts. Well, why do they not stay away if it hurts so much, or only attend Labour meetings and listen to sweet platitudes and lovely promises that are never fulfilled. Every time I listen to a Labour oration or read a report by these smoothtongued chaps who promise anything at all, it makes me wonder greatly thai §eople can be fooled so easily. Mr avage, at a picnic at Featherston, the other day, made a comparison between the two years of Labour and years under the last Government. Does he not realise yet that the last Government struck a bad patch from 1931 to 1935, and just as the depression began to lift, and the ship was emerging out of the stormy seas, and reaching calm waters, his party had the luck of a Chinaman by being returned as 'the government of the country. This prosperity is not the result of Labour rule. If any readers do not believe that statement, then let them ask themselves this question: Why is England (which is not under Labour) so prosperous since 1935? or why Australia, or South Africa, or Canada (none under Labour) so prosperous? The change from depression to prosperity in all these countries came in 1935. Why? England tried out Labour rule, and of course failed miserably, and just think of the political views of those two greatest of all Labour exponents, Ramsay Mac Donald and Philip Snowden. For years before they died they saw the folly of mob rule,.and changed. What about Australia, too. while Labour tried its hand and failed. Where is Scullin to-day? Where is the great Lang to-day? Just where Savage and Nash will be after the election. What is the position to-day? Why, England and Australia are happy, contented, and prosperous countries, because they have come back to a National Government. Poor New Zealand, we are trying out what failed in these countries, and a result most of us are hog-tied. But never mind, there is an election soon, and we shall put these Labour Communists in their places. In the meantime, Mr Hill and his colleagues would be well advised to stay away from National meetings, because they will surely get hurt. As Mr Hill says. "The truth always hurts."— Yours, etc., LIBERTY.
