WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
PARNASSUS The Parnassus Women’s Institute held its February meeting recently. Mrs W. H. Leaman gave an address. Tne monthly competitions were won as follows:—Jar raspberry jam, Miss Skinner; vase of flowers, Miss Skinner 1, Mrs T. Wilkinson 2. Afternoon tea was served by members. LINCOLN The February meeting of the Lincoln Women’s Institute was held in the Public Hall. Mrs A. Button presided. A competition held during the social halfhour was won by Mrs A. Moreland and Miss L. Smith. Mrs Millar (Prebbleton) gave an interesting demonstration on glove making. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Templeton and Stewart. Mrs Millar and Mrs L. Smith (Broadfleld) judged the monthly competitions. The following are the results; Senior: Best bloom, Mrs J. W. Stewart 1, Mrs E. Birch and Mrs J. Payne (equal) 2, Mrs E. Carter 4; preserved gooseberries. Mrs C. Watkins 1, Mrs E Carter 2, Mrs W. Templeton 3; linen bag, Mrs C. Watkins 1, Mrs E. Carter 2. Junior: Best bloom. Miss N. Peryman 1, Misses C. Moir and L. Smith (equal) 2, Miss D. Moir 4; preserved gooseberries, Miss L. Smith 1, Miss C. Moir 2; linen bag, Miss N. Peryman 1, Miss L. Smith 2, Miss N. Ford 3. OHOKA The monthly meeting of the Ohoka Women’s Institute was held recently. Final arrangements were made for the picnic to be held in March. Mrs James Ward sang a solo. Mrs Tully, of Southbrook, gave an interesting address on Switzerland. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames E. Sanders, W. Sanders, C. Skinner, R. G. Ward, and Miss E. Richards. The competition winners were: Smocking, Miss E. Richards 1, Miss A. Bailey 2, Mrs H. Lucas 3; best bloom, Mrs W. Martyn 1, Miss A. Bailey 2, Mrs F. Heron 3; decorative vase, Mrs F. Heron 1, Mrs H. Lucas 2, Mrs H. Benny 3. MOUNT PLEASANT The February meeting of the Mount Pleasant Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs H. Edgar, with Mrs Morten presiding. The speaker of the afternoon was Mrs MacDonnell, who gave an interesting account of her recent visit to Sydney. Baskets of fruit and flowers were displayed by members for the competition, which resulted in Mrs Sheppeard 1, Miss Hood-Williams 2, and Mrs F. H. D. Gale 3. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Edgar Burgess, R. Smith, Webb, Slater, and Miss Hood-Williams.
