OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, February 28. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m.‘ by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: South-westerly winds predominating; strong at times in some exposed positions, but mainly light to moderate. Weather for the most part fine, but scattered showers probable. Seas rather rough north of Kaikoura; elsewhere slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to strong winds between west and south-west prevailing. Weather changeable and somewhat squally, with rain at times and some heavy falls. Seas rather rough to rough. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather changeable generally and somewhat squally about and south of Cook Strait; scattered rains in most districts, with a few heavy falls. Temperatures warm at first, but becoming somewhat cooler during to-morrow. A series of rather shallow depressions continues to cross the Tasman and the Dominion, but pressure is now rising over the western Tasman. Conditions are disturbed in the Fiji and Tonga Island groups. Winds—South-westerly prevailing in the southern half of the South Island; elsewhere north-westerly to westerly, but south-westerlies gradually extending over most cf the Dominion: moderate to strong generally, and reaching gale force at some exposed positions south of New Plymouth and Napier. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough south of Farewell Spit and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Westerly winds at first in the northern and central portions; otherwise south-wester-lies prevailing; .force moderate to strong, with moderate to rather rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch was again hot yesterday. There was bright sunshine most of the time, and a strong north-westerly wind was blowing. The night was warm. The maximum temperature was 84.2 degrees. At 1 o'clock tills morning (he sky was cloudy and a strong Southwest wind was blowing . The temperature was 64 degrees, and the barometer, at 29.95 inches, was rising rapidly. Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, on February 28;—

Auckland—The weather was cloudy and humid with a few light showers. The wind was moderate from the north-west until the late afternoon, when it freshened from the west. The maximum temperature was 80 degrees. The barometer fell slightly, the 5 p.m. reading being 29.82 in. Wellington—The Weather was overcast in the early part of the morning, but most of the day was fine, sunny, and warm, with a fresh north-westerly wind. The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 65 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 72.6 degrees. At 3.30 the barometer registered 29.63 in. Dunedin —The sky was overcast for most of the day. though the sun shone intermittently during the afternoon. There was a sharp shower of rain accompanied by thunder, but the full strength of the disturbance did not pass directly 'over the city. The slight, to moderate south-west breeze was less noticeable towards evening when the more threatening clouds dispersed. The barometer, after falling in the morning, rose sharply last night. The maximum temperature was 76 degrees.
