IMPROVEMENTS FOR SUMNER

TO THP EDITDB OF TBB PRJSS. Sir, —I notice that Mr Newburgh, Mayor of Sumner, interviewed the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister for Labour, about the balance of £7OOO which was wanted for the £20,000 loan down here to improve our sewerage scheme. No doubt this does need improving, but how Mr Newburgh or the Labour Government expects the public to invest their good money at 3 per cent, beats me. It is an insult to anyone's intelligence. While Mr Newburgh is on the job, why stop at improving the sewer. Let us have our bridge across to the New Brighton side, two sun shelters, a concert snell, as they have at Timaru on Caroline Bay beach, and a hot saltwater swimming pool for the winter months, also for the benefit of those who do not like the cold water. With these few improvements, Sumner would' be a much better place to live in.—Yours, etc S. W. HICKMOTT. February 24, 1938.
