LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS
SELECTION OF LABOUR CANDIDATES
RECORD POLL OF MEMBERS EXPECTED
Expecting a record attendance, the Canterbury Labour Representation Committee has engaged the Choral Hall for the purpose of holding the polls next Thursday for the selection of candidates to contest the mayoralty and seats on the City Council, Lyttelton Harbour Board, and North Canterbury Hospital Board.
For many years past, the ballots have been conducted at the Trades Hall and the display of interest in the municipal elections this year convinced the committee that the accommodation there would be totally inadequate. All steps have been taken for the conduct of the poll of Labour Party members, and the ballot papers have been printed already. The list of official candidates for the various local bodies will be announced immediately after the poll.
Labour candidates for the mayoralty and council of the New Brighton borough will be chosen finally on February 28. The nominations of the New Brighton branch were subject to the scrutiny of the Labour Representation Committee, and, that work now being completed, representatives will meet the New Brighton branch.
