CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY POSTPONED
RAIN AT AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, February 4. Steady easterly rain, which fell throughout last night and continued practically without cessation all day to-day, caused the postponement of play in the annual New Zealand lawn tennis championship tournament. Late this evening there was no sign of clearance, and it is doubtful if there will be any play to-morrow. In the event of a fine day and provided the grass courts are fit for play, the programme for to-morrow will be considerably extended, and a start will be made at 11 a.m. instead of 1 p.m The finals of the mixed doubles and the women’s doubles will be played to-morrow, and the finals ot the men’s singles, women's singles, and men’s doubles will be decided next Tuesday afternoon. No play will be possible on Monday afternoon because of v the appearance at Stanley street of the American team.
