RETIREMENT FROM CITY COUNCIL
CR. T. H. BUTTERFIELD NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION An unbroken period of 13 3TStfiT membership of the Christchurch City Council will be ended by the decision of Cr. T. H. Butterfield not to accept nomination as a Labour candidate this year in the municipal elections, which will be held in May, Cr. Butterfield has advised the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee of his decision not to accept nomination. Cr. Butterfield does not intend, however, to retire permanently from participation in local politics, and it is understood that he will seek the Labour Party’s support as a candidate in the next Tramway Board election. During his membership of the City Council, Cr. Butterfield ha* been chairman of the abattoir and reserves committee and the baths and entertainment committee. Other local bodies on which he has served include the Christchurch Fire Board, the Christchurch Drainage Board, the Christchurch Domains Board, and the Papanui Memorial Hall Committee, of which hj« is chairman*
