DORSET HORNS IMPORTED
An unusual importation of sheep has just been made by H. Matson and Co. on behalf of Mr Free Holmes, of Upper Riccarton, who is known throughout New Zealand as a veteran trotting reinsman. Mr Holmes, about seven years ago, imported several sheep from Australia of the Dorset Horn breed, and periodically has sent into the Addington market exceptionally heavy lambs. His experience with the breed persuaded him to add to his flock, and on Thursday 12 ewes were landed at Lyttelton. The ewes were purchased from Mr W. S. Martin, of Balmoral, Sandy Creek, South Australia, and are a hne lot. The ewes are all of the 1936 drop and were mated in November to high class Dorset Horn stud rams, prizetakers in some cases, at the metropolitan shows. One of the rams used was first at the Melbourne and Adelaide shows as a ram lamb, first and champion at Mount Barker, Adelaide, and Melbourne as a two-tooth, and ffst at Adelaide and Melbourne, and champion at the latter show as a fourtooth. The consigning agents describe th£ ewes as an exceptionally good lot, and breeders of British breeds should be greatly -taken with them.
