FRUIT AND PRODUCE STOREMEN
“STILL GOVERNED BY OLD AWARD” MR J. S. BARNETT’S STATEMENT “There is a material difference between Mr Tucker’s statement and the real position,” said Mr J. S. Barnett, of the Canterbury Storemen and Packers’ Union, referring to a statement made by Mr J. Tucker, secretary of the union in Wellington, m a Press Association message published in “The Press” yesterday. Mr Tucker said that the new award issued on Wednesday did not cover storemen employed by fruit and produce merchants, who apparently were without protection until a separate Dominion •award was obtained. “This new award shall not apply to fruit and produce mediants. but they shall continue to be bound by the old amended award as recorded in the Book of Awards, volume 35, page 1504, until the time arrives when the new award is made,” Mr Barnett said. “In fact, the fruit and produce storemen and packers will be operating temporarily under the old award until the separate Dominion award is drawn up.”
