Tommy Tide Has Too Much Work to Do
Here’s something very sad that Lady Gay heard the other evening. Perhaps you might like to hear it, too. Thomas Tide came home very late the other evening, and Mrs Pacific Ocean was very annoyed. You see, she had specially told Thomas that he was to be in early, and it was nearly bedtime before he washed in, over the sea floor, all tired, and sandy, and worn-out. “It’s not my fault,” said poor Tommy Tide. “It’s that silly little New Brighton Beach. She won’t wash behind her ears.” , Mrs Pacific Ocean sighed. “Holiday time,” she sighed. “I’m glad it’s over. Ido wish the children wouldn’t leave paper, and banana skins, and odds and ends of sandwiches everywhere. They never think of the work they’re making, for us. It’s not little New Brighton beach’s fault. It’s theirs! Poor Mrs Pacific Ocean. No wonder she sounded cross. You see, she has so many beaches to keep clean, and it’s always washing day with her. Don’t leave your luncheon papers, and odds and ends of rubbish about, girls and boys. Pop them into the baskets that are provided for the purpose. Poor little New Brighton beach cried with shame that night when Tommy Tide, scrubbing away at her paper-strewn sands, said she didn’t wash behind her ears. It wasn’t her fault. , It is the same with picnic-grounds everywhere. There is no Thomas Tide to wash them all clean, and if you leave odds and ends scattered about it looks as if they never washed at all. Remember little New Brighton beach, who likes to be clean and tidy just as you do. LADY GAY.
