NURSERY RHYMES ARE VERY OLD

Do you know that Old King Cole of the nursery rhyme really lived? History reveals that he reigned in Britain 300 years after the birth of our Lord, and was the father of St. Helena. “Lucy Locket” can be traced back to the year 1580, and "Little Jack Horner” is more than 300 years old. And here is one of the oldest. “The House that Jack Built” comes from the ancient Hebrew, and the tune has been traced to an old Hebrew tune. '

Humpty Dumpty must be as old as Methuselah, for it has been popular in every country in Europe for generations.

MY KITTEN

Drawn by Pauline Healey (aged 4) Our little black kitten has been sick. The poor little thing wouldn’t eat or drink. My mother made it a little coat to keep it warm, and led it with a spoon. She gave it nice warm milk to drink. I have drawn the kitty in its blue flannel coat. —PAULINE HEALEY '(aged 4), 15 Tonks street. North Beach.
