OYSTERS
TO THB' EDITOR OF THB PRESS. Sir, —I think it is about time some action was taken to control the prices, both wholesale and retail, of oysters, also the inspection of oysters for size, as I have had some of this season’s which were undoubtedly below the standard size allowed to be taken The retail price also has gone up by 2d a dozen opened, which makes oysters an expensive dish even with standard size, but worse still with undersize oysters. I am not blaming the retailers, as I am well aware of the marketing conditions, which are under monopoly control; but it would be interesting to know w’hat this season’s prices are f.o.r. Bluff, as well as railage, cartage, and price to the retailer. A bag of standard size contains 60 dozen, but judging by those 1 purchased, there would be about 90 dozen to the bag at 9d a dozen opened, which certainly calls for action by the authorities.—Yours, etc., C. S. TRILLO. February 4, 1938.
