SWIMMING

NINE CANADIANS TO BE INVITED PROPOSED VISIT BY EMPIRE GAMES TEAM Arrangements for the proposed tour of New Zealand by the Canadian representatives after the Empire Games were made at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last evening. Mr F. G. Dunn presided. Nine swimmers would be invited—five to tour the North Island and four lor the south. The profits from all meetings would be pooled. After expenses were paid the remaining assets wmild be distributed among the centres. The arrangements are subject to approval by the provincial centres and thp Canadian authorities. Negotiations were proceeding to ma.ce February a "learn to swim" month in primary schools, reported the secretary (Mr B. O'Neill). The move was part of the Governemnt's plan for greater emphasis on outdoor activity in the earlier months of the school year. As soon as approval was received trom the Director of Education (Mr N. T.
