NEW ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
CHANGE IN AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT APPOINTMENT OF MR E. J. FAWCETT (TSJESS ASSOCIATION TBU(GR*Jt-> WELLINGTON, February 3. The appointment of Mr E. J. Fawcett, M.A. (Cambridge), to the position of Assistant-Director General of Agriculture is announced by the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin. He states that Mr Fawcetfs practical experience of farming before the Great War, his wide range of activities in the department, and his Government service and academic qualifications equipped him fully for the posiMr Fawcett was born at Nelson in 1892. He went to the Great War with the Seventh Reinforcements as a sec-ond-lieutenant. He was wounded at| Passchendaele, gaining the Military Cross. He was discharged with the rank of captain in 1918. Shortly afterwards, he wasi awarded the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship, and entered Cambridge. On the completion of a year, he was jawarded the Expeditionary Force Scholarship, and spent three years .ft Cambridge specialising in agriculture and econ°HeiCreturned to New and has since been in the service ol the department.
