NEW PRINCESS OF HOLLAND
A new princess of the Netherlands was born in Holland on Monday. Her parents are Princess Juliana, heir to the throne, and Prince Bernhard, and her name will be Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgaard. The baby is sturdy, brown-haired, and blue-eyed. A Royal decree issued in October last intimated that the first child born to Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard was to be known as the Prince or Princess of Orange-Nassau,
More than 70,000 biscuits, sprinkled with sugar and carraway seed, were distributed among school children. It is an old Dutch custom to do this at the birth of a child. Former Kaiser 79 The former Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany celebrated his seventy-ninth birthday last week. Nearly all his children and grandchildren visited him at Doom for the occasion. New Zealander’s Distinction Professor A. G, B. Fisher gave his first address to the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London last week. Six months ago he was appointed Professor of International Economics at the Royal Institute. He was born in Christchurch, and received his university education in Melbourne and London. For some years he was Professor of Economics in the University of Otago.* Ships Collide Three ships collided in Darling harbour, Australia, last week. The motor-freighter Momba was berthing when a strong wind carried her on to the coaster Bermagui. The force of the impact caused the Bermagui to bump another coaster, the Cobargo. Both coasters were damaged slightly. Hitler’s Visit to Rome The Italian police are taking strict measures to ensure the safety of Herr Hitler during his visit, to Italy in fee spring.
