HARBOUR BOARD’S HOUSING SITES
POOR RESPONSE FROM EMPLOYEES The scheme to provide housing sites and accommodation for employees of the Lyttelton Harbour Board has met with a poor response from the employees. This was shown at the meeting of the board yesterday. Only one application has been made for a section for a house, and so far no applications have been made for fists which the board proposed to form by converting the Sailors’ Home building in Norwich quay. "The time-ball site has now been cut up by survey as directed,” stated a report before the board. “The board s employees have been advised by circular that the three sections are available for leasing; but only one application has been received. “The staff were also advised by circular that the board has considered (and deferred further action on) a proposal to convert the ‘Sailors’ Home’ into flats if sufficient inducement were offering. The rental would be approximately £6O a year; but no applications have been received from the employees.”
