A MODERN CARGO SHIP

THE KAIKOURA AT LYTTELTON A fine type of modern, motor-driven cargo ship is represented by the Mon-treal-Australia-New Zealand Line vessel Kaikoura. which arrived at Lyttelton yesterday on her maiden voyage. With her rounded bow, similar to that of the Awatea, well raked stem and cruiser stern, the vessel attracted much favourable comment as she berthed at the Gladstone pier. The Kaikoura is one of the ships specially built for the Line, which was formed by the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Port Line and the EllermanBucknall Line, for the development of cargo trade between Eastern Canadian ports and New Zealand and Australia. The Kaikoura is discharging cargo from Halifax at Lyttelton, and will complete at Tlmaru and Dunedin. Later she will return to Lyttelton to load for Boston, New York, and Halifax.
